Built around the VAT201

VAT software that keeps your return ready

Output VAT and input VAT are recorded as you invoice and capture expenses. When the period closes you pull a VAT201 breakdown instead of rebuilding three months of paperwork.

VAT returns included on every paid plan. From R149/month.

Why VAT periods hurt

VAT is not difficult arithmetic. It becomes difficult when the underlying records were never kept with VAT in mind.

Rebuilding VAT from scratch every period

If VAT only gets calculated at period end, every invoice and receipt has to be revisited. LEDGA records the VAT portion at the moment you capture the transaction, so the return is a summary rather than a reconstruction.

Input VAT claims with no supporting document

You can only claim input VAT if you hold a valid tax invoice. LEDGA keeps the receipt or invoice attached to the expense, so the evidence sits with the claim.

Missing the submission date

VAT periods close on a fixed cycle and late submission attracts penalties and interest. Your live VAT position is on the dashboard, so the number is never a surprise.

What you get

VAT tracking and return preparation are on every paid plan, because VAT is not optional once you are registered.

VAT on every transaction

Invoices you issue build up output VAT. Expenses you capture build up claimable input VAT. Both are tracked per transaction rather than estimated at the end.

A VAT201 breakdown

When the period closes, LEDGA gives you the output VAT, input VAT, and net position so you can complete your VAT201 on eFiling without re-adding anything.

Reconciled against your bank

Import your bank CSV and match transactions before you file, so the return reflects money that actually moved rather than invoices you hoped were paid.

Supporting documents retained

Receipts stay attached to their transactions for the retention period SARS expects, which is what you need if a claim is ever queried.

Zero-rated and exempt handled separately

Not everything you sell carries VAT at the standard rate. Categorise the line correctly at capture and the return reflects it.

A live VAT position

See what you are likely to owe partway through the period, so the payment is planned for instead of discovered.

How a VAT period actually runs

The work is spread across the period rather than compressed into the last two days.

01

Capture with VAT as you go

Raise invoices and record expenses normally. The VAT treatment is set on each line at the time of capture.

02

Reconcile before you file

Import your bank statement, confirm the matches, and resolve anything unmatched so the period is complete.

03

Pull the breakdown and submit

Review the output and input VAT totals, then use them to complete your VAT201 on SARS eFiling.

Common questions

Does LEDGA submit my VAT201 to SARS for me?

No. LEDGA prepares the figures and gives you a clear VAT201 breakdown, but you submit the return yourself through SARS eFiling. We deliberately keep the submission in your hands so you review the numbers before they go to SARS.

When do I have to register for VAT?

VAT registration becomes compulsory once your taxable turnover exceeds the SARS threshold in a rolling twelve-month period, and voluntary registration is possible at a lower level of turnover. Check the current thresholds on the SARS website or with your accountant, as they are set by SARS and can change.

Which plans include VAT returns?

VAT return preparation is included on every paid plan, starting with Solo at R149 per month. It is not restricted to the higher tiers, because VAT is not optional for a registered business.

Can I use LEDGA before I am VAT registered?

Yes, and many businesses do. If you are not registered, invoices are issued without VAT and no VAT is tracked. When you register later, you switch VAT on and carry on with the same records.

What if I make a mistake on a past period?

Because every figure is traceable to the transaction behind it, you can find what changed and correct the underlying record. How to handle a correction with SARS depends on the situation, so speak to your accountant or tax practitioner.

Is this tax advice?

No. LEDGA is software that organises your records and calculates your VAT position from them. It does not replace a registered tax practitioner, and nothing on this page is tax advice.
