Bookkeeping software that keeps up with your business
Scan receipts as you get them, reconcile your bank statement in one sitting, and walk into your VAT period with books that already balance. Priced in rands, built around SARS rules.
No card required. From R149/month after your trial.
What usually goes wrong
Most small businesses do not have a bookkeeping problem. They have a capture problem that only shows up when something is due.
A shoebox of faded receipts
Photograph each slip as you get it. LEDGA reads the supplier, date, total, and VAT off the image and files it against the right expense category, with the image kept as your supporting document.
Reconciling statements line by line
Import a CSV from FNB, Standard Bank, ABSA, Nedbank, or Capitec. LEDGA suggests matches against invoices and expenses you have already captured, so you confirm rather than retype.
Spreadsheets that break at year end
Your ledger, VAT position, and reports come from one dataset. Nothing depends on a formula somebody dragged into the wrong cell eight months ago.
What you get
Bank reconciliation, expense tracking, VAT returns, and reporting are included on every paid plan from R149 a month. Recurring transactions are on Professional, and AI receipt scanning is a R79/month add-on.
Receipt scanning that reads the VAT (add-on)
Snap a photo and LEDGA extracts supplier, date, amount, and the VAT portion. The image stays attached, which is what SARS wants to see if they ask you to substantiate an input VAT claim. Available as a R79/month add-on for 100 scans; you can always attach receipts manually on any plan.
Bank reconciliation with real matching
Upload your statement and LEDGA proposes matches by amount and date. Confirm a match and the linked invoice is marked paid automatically, so your debtors book stays honest.
Recurring entries (Professional plan)
Rent, insurance, medical aid, software subscriptions. Set them once and they land every month without you remembering to capture them. Recurring transactions are available on the Professional plan at R699 per month.
Reports you can act on
Profit and loss, cash flow, expenses by category, and debtor ageing, all calculated off live data rather than a monthly export.
Records kept the way SARS expects
Sequential numbering, an audit trail on every figure, and supporting documents attached to the transactions they belong to.
Expense categories that match your ledger
Categorise as you capture, so your P&L is meaningful mid-year instead of being sorted out in a panic before your accountant needs it.
A month of bookkeeping, realistically
This is the rhythm LEDGA is designed around.
Capture as you go
Photograph receipts, raise invoices, and let recurring items post themselves. Two minutes a day beats a lost weekend at month end.
Reconcile once a month
Import your bank CSV, work through the suggested matches, and confirm. Anything unmatched is flagged so nothing quietly disappears.
Review before you file
Check your P&L and VAT position, then pull the VAT201 breakdown when the period closes. Your accountant gets clean books instead of a folder of images.
Common questions
Do I need a bookkeeper if I use LEDGA?
Many small businesses handle day-to-day capture themselves and bring in an accountant for year-end and tax submissions. LEDGA is designed so that the records you keep are clean enough for your accountant to work from without redoing them. It does not replace professional tax advice.
Which South African banks can I import statements from?
LEDGA imports CSV statements, which every major South African bank can export, including FNB, Standard Bank, ABSA, Nedbank, Capitec, and TymeBank. You download the CSV from your online banking and upload it.
How long do I need to keep my records?
SARS generally requires you to retain records for five years from the date of submission. Because LEDGA keeps the receipt image attached to the transaction, your supporting documents stay with the entry rather than degrading in a drawer.
Can I move across from spreadsheets?
Yes. Most businesses start by capturing the current month forward, then load opening balances for customers and suppliers. Get in touch through our contact page and we will talk you through it.
